Privacy Policy
Applicable app: Musuhi - Photo Backup (the "App")
Last updated: June 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy (this "Policy") explains what information the App handles and how it is handled. Please read this Policy before using the App.
1. Basic Principles (Summary)
The App is designed to back up photos and videos from the photo library on your Mac by copying them to a destination folder you choose yourself (such as an external disk or your Mac).
- The App does not transmit your photos, videos, or personal information to our servers or any third-party servers.
- The App performs no tracking whatsoever for usage analytics or advertising.
- All processing takes place within your Mac and within the storage you have selected.
2. Information We Obtain and Use
2-1. Photos and Videos (Photo Library)
To provide its backup feature, the App requests permission to access the library of the macOS Photos app. Access is used only for the following purposes.
- Reading the photos and videos to be backed up, along with the associated information required for backup processing (capture date and time, file type, type such as Live Photos or spatial media, burst information, and the like).
- Writing to the photo library in order to add processed items to management albums.
2-2. Downloading Media Stored in iCloud
When a photo or video to be backed up exists only in iCloud and is not physically present on your Mac, the App downloads the original from your own iCloud account through Apple's standard framework (PhotoKit). This is necessary in order to copy the original to the destination.
- The communication endpoint for retrieving photos and videos is iCloud (an Apple service), into which you are signed in on macOS.
- In addition, communication through Apple's StoreKit may occur for in-app purchases and restoring purchases (see 2-6 for details).
- Authentication credentials (such as your Apple Account password) are managed by macOS; the App does not obtain, store, or transmit them.
- Apart from the above, the App does not perform any network communication intended to transmit your photos, videos, or personal information externally. We do not perform any communication to collect your information.
2-3. Writing to the Destination Folder
The App writes copies of photos and videos to the destination folder you select.
- The App uses the destination folder you select on screen as the backup destination. The destination is limited to a folder you have explicitly selected.
- The files written out retain the metadata of the original photo or video (such as EXIF and color space information) exactly as in the original. If a photo has embedded location information, that information is also carried over to the copied file.
2-4. Settings Stored on Your Device
App settings such as the configured backup item types and destination information are stored only within your Mac (in the standard settings storage area of macOS).
2-5. Information We Do Not Obtain
The App does not obtain, collect, or transmit the following information.
- Personally identifying information such as your name, email address, or phone number (there is no account registration feature).
- Tracking information using device identifiers or advertising identifiers.
- Analytics data such as app usage or crash information.
- Your photos and videos themselves, or information extracted from them — the App never transmits these to our servers.
2-6. About In-App Purchases
Purchases of the App's Premium (one-time purchase) are processed through Apple's in-app purchase system (StoreKit).
- We do not obtain or store payment information such as credit card numbers or bank account details. This payment processing is handled by Apple.
- Verifying purchase status and restoring purchases are performed based on the system provided by Apple. With the same Apple ID, you can restore your purchase on another Mac as well.
- For how Apple Account authentication credentials are handled, please refer to 2-2.
3. Purposes of Use of Information
The information the App handles is used only for the following purposes.
- Performing backups of photos and videos (copying them to the destination).
- Managing processed and to-be-reviewed items (adding them to albums, and thereby avoiding duplicate processing).
- Displaying the status within the App when an interruption or error occurs.
It is not used for any purpose other than the above.
4. Handling of the Photo Library (Important)
- In accordance with the features you have enabled and the backups you run, the App creates management albums within the photo library (by default "Backed Up" and "Needs Review"; their names can be changed in the app's settings screen) and adds the relevant items to them.
- The App does not delete or alter the original photos and videos in your photo library. To record backup status, it only adds them to management albums.
- Writing to the destination is a process that creates a copy of the original data and does not affect the original data.
5. Provision to and Sharing with Third Parties
We do not provide, share, or sell your photos, videos, or other information to third parties through the App. As of the last updated date of this Policy, the App does not incorporate any third-party analytics services, advertising services, or SDKs.
6. Storage, Retention, and Deletion of Data
- The photos and videos the App handles, the backup files at the destination, and the app settings are all stored on storage under your control (your Mac, external disks, and the like). We do not store or retain any of these.
- You are free to move or delete the backup files written to the destination yourself.
- The retention or deletion of settings information after you uninstall (remove) the App depends on the behavior of macOS. Due to the way macOS works, some settings information may remain on your device (such as in the container area) even after the app itself is removed. You can delete these yourself. Note that backup files already written to the destination are retained unless you explicitly delete them.
7. About Tracking
The App does not perform any tracking that would be subject to App Tracking Transparency (ATT).
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at any particular age group, and does not collect personal information from users of any age.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Policy in response to changes in laws or changes to the App's features. When we make significant changes, we will post the revised content and the last updated date on this page. If you continue to use the App after a revision, you are deemed to have agreed to the revised Policy.
